The Many New Faces of Nintendo 3DS XL and 3DS

I’ve never owned a Nintendo 3DS, mostly because I’ve just never wanted one. But after seeing this gems popping up everywhere, I’ve been rethinking that decision. Now, I mostly want one just so I can look at it, because these are gorgeous.

Just last week, Nintendo announced the GameStop exclusive Nostalgia 3DS XL, which looks amazing. And maybe a tad bit ironic—a new piece of technology with an old-school look?—but amazing all the same. The NES controller modeled edition is up for pre-order at just $199 with a launch date of October 11th. GameStop believes the stock won’t last long.

The NES Edition 3DS XL will hit GameStop on 10/ 11/14 for $199.99.

That’s not all! Just in time for the holidays, Nintendo will debut two more custom handhelds!

The Persona Q Edition Nintendo 3DS XL: GameStop launches on November 25th, along with the ATLUS role-playing game Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. While the game is not included, the gorgeous exterior design is a steal on its own. It will retail for $199, as well.

Rumored to be launching on September 19th, the Super Smash Bros. Edition of the 3DS XL, available in red and blue, will celebrate the upcoming October 3rd release of the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. I think this edition would be my favorite of the group, but it’s so hard to choose!

The XL a little too big for you? Over on the other side of the world, Japan’s Pokémon Center stores will sell Pokémon-themed Nintedo units on October 11th for just $177 (or ¥19,000) each, available for both the 3DS and 3DS XL. In suede. That’s right, the pair—Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire—will feature suede faceplates emblazoned with Groudon and Kyogre. They’re stunning, to say the least. The handhelds will debut on the same day as the games, but will not include the games themselves. A small price to pay, isn’t it?

So many gorgeous editions—which one is your favorite? Are you a Nintendo 3DS user to begin with, or have you been converted?

Ohh, I do like the look of the first one :D So pretty. <3 I own the regular Nintendo 3DS, white edition. And I think it is gooorgeous. <3 Though, hah, I haven't taken the time to play with it yet :p only a little bit of Mario, though I have bought six other games. I just need to make myself some time for it :) Anyway. I hope you do end up buying a 3DS one day :D They are pretty gorgeous. <3

I’m so glad to hear the white one is gorgeous—that only means these are going to be epic! I used to play Mario when I was younger, so I’d probably go with that, if I do get one.

I’ve actually preordered the Persona Q 3DS XL, because I’m a huge Atlus fan. I know a lot of people are holding out on these though because of the announced New 3DS (terrible name when there’s a lot of improvements and extra buttons, IMO). No stateside release date for that yet though, and honestly I want this handheld for the collector value as well as finally upgrading to an XL :D

    • Hafsah says:

The collector’s value is what I’d be getting this for, as well, if I were indeed getting one. I love the look of all of them, though, so I don’t know how I’d choose! Regarding the New 3DS: it is a terrible name! And these ones are just bad timing.

I’ve over and over again regretted lacking a discount that we believed I’d never employ.
